15. He it is Who hath made the earth subservient unto you, so Walk in the paths thereof and eat of His providence. And unto Him will be the resurrection (of the dead).

18. And verily those before them denied, then (see) the manner of My wrath (with them)!

19. Have they not seen the birds above them spreading out their wings and closing them? Naught upholdeth them save the Beneficent. Lo! He is Seer of all things.

22. Is he who goeth groping on his face more rightly guided, or he who walketh upright on a straight road?
Qul huwal lazee ansha akum wa ja’ala lakumus sam’a wal absaara wal af’idata qaleelam maa tashkuroon
23. Say (unto them, O Muhammad): He it is who gave you being, and hath assigned unto you ears and eyes and hearts. Small thanks give ye!
Qul huwal lazee zara akum fil ardi wa ilaihi tuhsharoon

Surah Mulk in English Translation: Meaning in Brief
Surah Mulk takes its name from its first verse: all mulk (sovereignty and dominion) is in the hand of Allah. Here is a short summary of what the two rukus say.
Ruku 1 (verses 1 to 14): Allah’s power and the test of life
Allah holds all dominion and has power over everything. He created death and life to test who does the best deeds. He made seven heavens in perfect harmony, and however hard you look, you will find no flaw in them. He adorned the nearest sky with lamps. The surah then describes those who rejected their Lord: when they are cast into the Fire, they admit that a warner came to them and they denied him. In contrast, those who fear their Lord unseen will have forgiveness and a great reward. Allah knows what is hidden in every heart, for He is the Creator, the Subtle, the All-Aware.
Ruku 2 (verses 15 to 30): signs in the world around you
Allah made the earth easy to live on, so walk through it and eat from His provision; to Him is the return. Can anyone feel safe that the earth will not swallow them, or that a storm of stones will not be sent? Earlier nations denied the truth and saw the result. Look at the birds above you, spreading and folding their wings: nothing holds them up except the Most Merciful. There is no army and no provider besides Him. He gave you hearing, sight and hearts, yet you give little thanks. People ask when the Day of Judgment will come; its knowledge is with Allah alone. The surah ends by asking: if your water sank deep into the earth, who could bring you flowing water?

Benefits of Surah Mulk (from Authentic Hadith)
1. It intercedes for its reader
The Prophet ﷺ said: “A surah from the Quran of thirty verses interceded for a man until he was forgiven, and it is Tabarak alladhi biyadihil mulk.” (Jami at-Tirmidhi 2891; also Abu Dawud 1400)
2. The Prophet ﷺ recited it every night before sleeping
Jabir ibn Abdullah reported that the Prophet ﷺ would not sleep until he had recited Surah As-Sajdah and Surah Al-Mulk. (Jami at-Tirmidhi 2892)
3. A protection in the grave
Abdullah ibn Mas’ud described Surah Al-Mulk as al-māni’ah, the one that protects from the punishment of the grave. This report is in al-Nasa’i’s al-Sunan al-Kubra, and scholars such as al-Albani graded it as acceptable (hasan).
Imam at-Tirmidhi also records (Jami at-Tirmidhi 2890) from Ibn Abbas that the Prophet ﷺ called this surah al-mani’ah (the defender) and al-munjiyah (the saviour) that saves its reader from the punishment of the grave. At-Tirmidhi graded it hasan gharib, and some later scholars graded it weak, so we mention it with that note.
4. A daily reminder of Allah’s power
The surah asks you to look at the sky, the earth, the birds and your own senses. Reading it with its meaning every night trains the heart to notice Allah’s signs.
When and How to Read Surah Mulk
- Best time: at night before sleep, following the Sunnah. Many people read it after Isha.
- Daily habit: consistency matters more than the exact time. A short daily routine beats an occasional long session.

Tajweed Notes for Surah Mulk
Surah Mulk has clear examples of common Tajweed rules, which makes it a good surah to practise with:
- Ghunnah: hold the nasal sound on a doubled noon or meem, as in ثُمَّ (verse 4) and إِنَّ (verse 12). See Ghunna rules with examples.
- Ikhfa: noon sakinah before qaf in مِن قَبْلِهِمْ (verse 18) is hidden with a light nasal sound. See the 15 Ikhfa letters.
- Idgham: noon sakinah merges into ra in مِن رِ͏ّزْقِهِۦ (verse 15), without ghunnah. See Idgham rules.
- Iqlab: noon sakinah before ba becomes a meem sound in بِذَنۢبِهِمْ (verse 11).
- Qalqalah: the echoing sound on dal sakinah in قَدْ (verse 9).
- Madd: the long stretch in جَآءَنَا (verse 9), where the alif is followed by a hamzah in the same word.
